The over use of graphics - Newbie web sites usually are filled with images everywhere on the design. the design becomes cluttered and slow loading but it is "beautiful". People are not interested in your abilities to make use of Front Page buttons or rollover buttons they want results and they want it fast.

The use of a framed site - Although there are many old school designers that strictly believe in a framed web site it is regarded in my book to be the worst design you can use. Framed sites has many limitations to the optimization process and is not regarded as the best way to design a web site.
